Seasonal autumn Cocktails at the Wave...of American Flavors

Just when I had written a blog post mentioning that I think the Contemporary is overrated, they go and add some seasonal autumn cocktails to the menu at The Wave…of American Flavors. Naturally, we had to go and try them out.

I don’t think everyone realizes this, but The Wave always has a seasonal spiked coffee on their breakfast menu.

Another thing that people may not realize is how I prefer to take my coffee: spiked.  I like it spiked.  So, I started with that.

It was lovely! This cup of Joe was spiked with RumChata and butterscotch.  It had a familiar taste…hot butter beer!  It was ten times better than anything you’d get at Starbucks and the perfect beverage to pump you up for a day at the Magic Kingdom.

We knew when we made our advanced dining reservation that we wanted to try the seasonal cocktails.  It was 8 am, so I wasn’t sure how it would look if we asked for a cocktail menu, but we must have a look about us because the waitress brought it would without us having to ask.

We thought all three drinks looked intriguing, but which one was the best? The only way to know for sure was to try all three, of course!

Harvest Punch

Mike started with the Harvest Punch, while I sipped on my spiked coffee.  This cocktail has some orange juice in it, so that qualifies it as a breakfast drink. Along with the OJ, it has rum, butterscotch schnapps (I see you working overtime, buddy), bitters, and pumpkin syrup.

This cocktail was beautiful to look at and even LOOKED like fall. The cinnamon stick and star anise were perfect garnishes.  Mike said that, because of the schnapps, this cocktail also had a butterbeer taste to it.  It was his favorite of the three.  It was sweet, but not sickeningly sweet.

Witch's Brew

My second beverage, and first off of the seasonal autumn cocktail list, was the Witch’s Brew. The concoction was made of vodka, blue curaçao, sweet and sour, grenadine, and cranberry juice

It was definitely more of a Halloween drink and it packed a punch in the spooky department (with a gummy worm and a poison apple glow cube), but not so much in taste.  I have an unhealthy love of glow cubes,  so I was immediately drawn to this. And…I  was disappointed.  It tasted like spiked grape Kool-aid.  Darn you, glow cube!

Wild Apple Mule

Mike’s second autumn cocktail was the Wild Apple Mule.  It came in the signature copper mug (oh, how I love those frosty things!) and was made of Crown Royal Apple, sparkling apple cider, and, of course, ginger beer.  The garnish on this one was a dehydrated apple.

If you don’t like apple cocktails, this one is not for you.  It is VERY apple-y.  But it was also very comforting and warm.  Like being wrapped in a warm blanket and sitting by the fire.  Mike and I both liked this one and it was MY favorite.  And I would have ordered it, too, if it hadn’t been for that blasted glow cube!

Don’t look now, but Mike had an idea.

My ideal seasonal autumn cocktail

Ahh! There! That is MUCH better.

If you are looking to escape the Florida heat, duck into the Wave…of American Flavors at the Contemporary Resort to enjoy some air conditioning and imbibe one of these fallish cocktails.  Or stop in to get a drink in before you head to Magic Kingdom for the day!  Two of them are definitely winners.
